In Victoria, a victim of crime may be eligible for a grant of assistance by making application to the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal. This can be a daunting prospect for most people but when achieved successfully can provide victims with a sense of closure and assist recovery from the crime.
At Brockway Legal we treat our clients with empathy and are committed to working closely with you to make this process as painless as possible and to obtain the highest Award available for you. We believe that each victim has unique needs and we treat each matter individually working with each client to achieve not just compensation (where available) but also funding for items or services to assist from the crime. This can include*:-
- medical expenses
- security items such as alarms or sensor lights
- relaxation/stress relief treatments or classes
- relocation expenses
*Please note: not all items or services are available for funding to all victims, each case will need to be considered on its merits. Replacement of property is generally not awarded by the Tribunal with the exception of clothing damaged or destroyed in the incident.
If you are a victim of crime please contact us to arrange an appointment to discuss whether you are eligible for an Award and what the Tribunal may Award in your circumstances.
We can also discuss with you when seeking compensation directly from the offender may be possible and what you can expect if you choose to do this.
